In its neighborhoods leather, palm, sieve, wood and fabric are crafted, standing out the community of Monimbó with its folkloric sieve masks, its manila hammocks, tapestries, ropes, wooden toys, leather footwear, palm weaves, costumes and costumes for the different dance expressions such as: Los Aguizotes, Torovenado and black dance; followed by the San Juan neighborhood that has specialized in hammocks with different sizes and styles.

Just 28 kilometers southwest of the capital is the municipality of Masaya, rich in ancestral traditions. Located on the shores of the lagoon of the same name, it limits with the municipalities of Tipitapa, to the north; to the south with Catarina and Niquinohomo; to the east with Tisma and Granada, and to the west with Nandasmo.

One of the main economic activities in Masaya is large-scale commerce. This municipality represents an important commercial center for other cities in the same department, as well as for Carazo, Granada and Managua.

Since pre-Columbian times its inhabitants have dedicated themselves to the elaboration of handicrafts, ceramics, toys, palm and cabuya hats, hammocks, handmade and machine embroideries, sandals and all kinds of footwear, as well as decorated wardrobes and wooden furniture.

The main access roads to the municipality are the Managua-Masaya-Granada highway and the highway to Diriomo, known as the route to the White Towns, which are in perfect condition. Public passenger transportation is provided by buses, minibuses, and taxis.

The interdepartmental collective transport service includes the Masaya-Managua, Masaya-Granada, Masaya-Rivas and Masaya-Carazo routes.

To get to Masaya directly, you must board the intercity transport units that travel from Managua and that leave at the bus terminals located in the Mercado Oriental, Mercado Roberto Huembes and in front of the Casimiro Sotelo Montenegro National University.

You can also get there using the bus units bound for the cities of Granada, Rivas and San Juan del Sur, and get off at the entrance of the "City of Flowers".

If you go by private vehicle, from Managua, you must take the road to Masaya until kilometer 28. Proper signage will make your trip easier.
