Municipality of Tisma

Tisma in the Nahuatl language is "Tismayan" and means "place where one fills with chalk", it is a picturesque town, with its typical country image, with large patios with fruit trees and ornamental plants.

The city was built on a pre-Hispanic settlement, confirmed by the different archaeological finds that are frequently found in the territory. Each object found is part of the historical memory and identity of the town of Tisma.

The municipality of Tisma is located 36 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with the municipality of Tipitapa (which is another entrance), to the south and west with Masaya and to the east with Granada.

In agricultural activities, corn, sorghum, cassava and vegetables predominate. Livestock is for dual purposes (meat and milk).

Fishing in the Laguna de Tisma.

Fishing in the Laguna de Tisma is of great importance for local consumption and commercialization and in the markets of Tipitapa, Masaya and Managua.

This lagoon is a RAMSAR site, internationally recognized wetland, it has its variations in summer time.

The drought of recent years has caused the lagoon to lower its water levels, currently it remains at 60% normalizing its fishing.

The access road to Tisma from Masaya or Tipitapa is on a cobbled road in good condition. The municipality has electricity and mobile phone coverage, as well as a health center and primary and secondary education centers, a mother's home and CDI.

You can get to Tisma by buses from the city of Masaya or Tipitapa, boarding at the municipal bus terminals.

If you go by vehicle on the Masaya-Tipitapa highway you will see the entrance to the paved road that leads to Tisma labeled. At the roundabout, located at kilometer 30, you turn and travel approximately 12 kilometers until you reach the city.

Another access is through the entrance of La Inca road to Granada, you will turn left 14 kilometers.
