The word Dipilto, in the Matagalpa language means "Pot of Leeches". This municipality was founded in 1942 and became part of the department of Nueva Segovia in 1989.
Dipilto is a very picturesque town with a cool climate, known throughout the country for its National Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Piedra, and its emblem "With the smell of pine, the taste of coffee and people of faith." It is characterized by its pine forests, ideal for hiking and venturing to discover a natural world endowed with beautiful landscapes and also wrapped in the cultural tradition of the inhabitants.
The municipality of Dipilto is located 239 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with the Republic of Honduras, to the south with Ocotal, to the east with Mozonte, and to the west with Macuelizo.
The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is the cultivation of coffee and banana plantations.

If you want to visit the municipality of Dipilto, you must take a collective transport unit at the bus terminal of Mercado El Mayoreo, in Managua, bound for Ocotal, then board another bus bound for Dipilto. In the municipality you can mobilize by collective transport to the communities.
You can travel by private vehicle heading through the Pan-American highway north to the municipality of Sébaco, in this municipality you follow the detour to the city of Estelí and then in the direction of the Somoto junction, then in the direction of Ocotal Nueva Segovia until you reach Dipilto.
In the municipality is the border post of Las Manos, which unites Nicaragua with the neighboring country of Honduras and through which international buses, local collective transport and commercial transport pass.
