It is located about 20 kilometers north of the city of Camoapa in the department of Boaco. It has an area of ​​4,580 hectares. It was declared through decree 42-91 published in Gazette No. 207 on November 4, 1991.

The tropical humid forest predominates, most of the area being found at heights ranging from 200 to 500 meters above sea level. It presents a mountainous landscape with timber and multiple-use forest species such as cedar, mahogany, pochote, laurel, guanacaste, genízaro, granadillo and coyote; although it also has flora such as bromeliads and heliconia naturally, as well as cornice, Coal, black wood, matapalo and guanacaste ear. It has species of fauna protected by CITES, among them we have parrots and chocoyos, pichetes and snakes.
