The El Genízaro Exhibition Museum Room: In this place, the collection of objects that were made from one of the branches of the ancient tree, the genízaro de Nagarote, is exhibited. One of its branches broke off in 1993, which is why some artisans and sculptors from the community came up with the idea of taking advantage of the wood and making replicas of indigenous art with the wood of the genízaro. It is located in the birthplace of Commander Silvio Mayorga, it is a site that preserves an important part of the history of the municipality. This house retains the features of colonial style. El Genizaro Park.

El Genízaro Park: It is located in the Central Park of Nagarote. The legendary “El genízaro” was born on this site. The ancestors made this place their tiangue or market, it was also a place for ceremonies and rituals. Here the Nagrandanos held festivals with songs, dances and countless activities. According to legend, the Nagrandano Indians, supported by the chief of the tribe, rebelled against the settlers and by order of Pedrarias Dávila the Nagrandano cacique was ordered to be killed, who was hanged on one of the largest branches of the genízaro tree for defending his tribe.

The Nagarote genizaro is perhaps one of the oldest trees preserved in the country, its approximate age dates back to a thousand years. Its ancient branches house different stages of our history.

house of culture_nagarote_culture3On March 19, 1964, when Dr. René Schik was president, the tree was declared a National Monument. This declaration of a national monument is one of the few that does not fall on real estate or inanimate objects. Its importance is based on being one of the oldest trees in Nicaragua, a silent witness to historical events that took place in Nagarote for more than four centuries. His image has been documented in chronicles of the XNUMXth century and is mentioned by priests and naturalists of the XNUMXth century.
