The amazing Caribbean is very rich in languages: Miskitu, Rama, Creoles, Ulwas / Mayagnas, Garífunas and Mestizos of ancestral customs, with their toponyms that are the historical trace to know their origin.

The Autonomous Region of the South Caribbean Coast is made up of the municipalities: Bluefields, Río Grande mouth, El Ayote, El Rama, Corn Island, Kukra Hill, El Tortuguero, La Cruz de Río Grande, Pearl Lagoon, Muelle de los Bueyes, New Guinea and Paiwas.

Its population is multicultural and multilingual, descendants of indigenous peoples, Afro-Caribbean immigrants, mainly Mestizos (81%), Creoles (8.5%), Miskitus (6.5%), Ulwas (2%), Garifunas (1.5%) and Ramas ( 0.5%). The English exercised hegemony and the British influence was felt until the end of the last century, 1894. Many names of the Municipalities are derived from there, such as Bluefields, Corn Island, Pearl Lagoon, Monkey Point, Sandy Bay; and some neighborhoods like Pointeen, Beholden, Old Bank.

It is a more jungle and rainy area than the North Caribbean, but the temperature is warm all year round. The coastline is occupied by two extensive lagoons: Perlas and Bluefields, connected to each other by branches and secondary channels.

To the south is the Monkey Point Peninsula, the only coastal part that represents rocky cliffs and then continues with an arc of sandy beaches where the Punta Gorda and Maíz rivers flow. Its most important river is the Escondido, a beautiful waterway 90 kilometers long and between 200 and 300 meters wide that is formed by the almost simultaneous confluence of the Siquia, Mico and Rama rivers.

Traveling to the Caribbean Coast was a journey that lasted 10 hours; in 2019, with the construction of the highway that connects the Pacific with this region, it was reduced to seven. The journey is an adventure packed with magnificent scenic views and quaint communities.

On the Caribbean Coast the English exercised hegemony and the British influence was felt until the end of the ancestor century, 1894. From there many names of the Municipalities (Bluefields, Corn Island, Pearl Lagoon, Monkey Point, Sandy Bay) and Barrios ( Pointeen, Beholden, Old Bank).

Perlas Cays

The RACCS, covers more than 27 thousand kilometers, is more jungle and rainy than the North Caribbean, but the temperature is warm all year round. The coastline is occupied by two extensive lagoons: Perlas and Bluefields, connected to each other by branches and secondary channels.

In the South Caribbean there are many places of interest, Bluefields being the main head of the region, it was the capital of the Kingdom of La Mosquitia, it is a melting pot of languages, races and customs, it is the main port of Nicaragua on the Caribbean. Its houses have English cultural influence as well as its dance traditions, its gastronomy reflects African and English heritage and lately mestizo.

The Bluff, stands out as a shrimp fishing center of first importance; the various islets of the bay, planted with graceful coconut palms giving the bay an elegant postcard view, very close to El Bluff is the hidden Rama Cay Island (ramaquí) with an ancestral culture, both sites belonging to the municipality of Bluefields.

The whole south is amazing, its municipalities are beautiful and unique, we can mention the paradisiac Isla del Maíz, Paiwas with its mysterious petroglyphs, Laguna de Perlas and its brilliant fish, New Guinea opening its natural beauties to the world, El Ayote nuevo y cosechero, Kukra Hill and its tourist splendor, El Tortuguero is the most traditional, El Rama and its transition to modernity with its new highway, La Cruz de Río Grande with its waterfalls and rivers, Muelle de los Bueyes and its natural heritage, and so on. shelving its scenic beauties that invite you to meet and take care of it, the Caribbean awaits you, it is Nicaragua.
