The Moravian Church was founded in 1849 by the Moravian missionaries from Germany being one of the oldest churches in this area; the Moravian Church separated from the Catholic Church in 1457 when they decided to ordain their own pastors.

Moravian missionaries served as teachers and doctors, building churches, schools, hospitals, and health centers. Architecture is part of the culture and symbol of the Caribbean Coast.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary was founded in 1913, it is the first cathedral in Bluefields in honor of Pope Pius X. It is the only apostolic vicariate of Nicaragua elevated to a diocese by Pope Francis on November 30, 2017.

 

Apostolic Vicariate of Bluefields 

Founded on December 02, 1913, in 1534 Central America separated from the diocese of Mexico when the dioceses of Guatemala and León were founded. At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, more dioceses were erected in Nicaragua.
