The current population is the consequence of a settlement formed by displaced people from the Masaya municipality at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, whose first families were named Ruiz and Nicaragua. The name of the initial hamlet was The Chompipe.
On March 09, 1848, by legislative decree, the limits of the municipality were set, said law gave the name of the new town: El Rosario.

The municipality has its own “Corrido del Rosario" composed by Sindulfo Bravo, with musical arrangements by Carlos Nicaragua.
There are four philharmonic bands, among which the following stand out: Los Hermanos Quintanilla, Discaine and Divino Niño.
In January 2012, the Spectacular Southern Band was created, a group that entertains all audiences. It is made up of 13 musicians and two dancers, directed by Cristóbal Antonio Nicaragua. Brayan Jose Nicaragua Cordero, is dedicated to natural medicine, in addition to making beautiful altars to the saints and making traditional sweets and cartas. He is in charge of carrying out the Santo Domingo festival in the municipality, an activity that attracts the interest of locals and people from other municipalities, due to its color, devotion, quantity and diversity of foods that are distributed on those dates. He lives in front of the local health center.
Engel David Gonzalez, is dedicated with great professionalism to the elaboration of beautiful and striking fantasy costumes, in its designs the use of materials in harmony with nature and handcrafted elements predominates that allow us to appreciate a work full of imagination, originality and the artistic talent that characterizes this young designer.
