Serranía Dipilto Natural Reserve

Explore the Serranía Dipilto Natural Reserve a protected area shared with the municipality of Jalapa, Mozonte and San Fernando. On this site you can take tours of the nature trails, learn about the flora and fauna of the municipality. This protected area is located in the north central zone of Nicaragua, within the binational basin of the Coco River.

The Serranía Dipilto – Jalapa Reserve has an area of 31,315 hectares.

There are surprising landscapes of the deep ravines that cut the sloping slopes of the mountain range, which are surrounded by pine and oak forest; these are species rich ecosystems. The redoubts contain the four species of the genus Pinus that are reported in the country, 12 species of the genus Quercus and a large number of species of orchids and bromeliads. It has many grasses which when drying can cause fires.

Visit the Cerro La Coquimba Forest National Park and Viewpoint, this site is of great importance in the history of the municipality, here you can learn about the history of this place through guided tours.

Other very interesting places in the municipality to observe are the Dipilto, Linda Vista, La Torre, El Perote and El Horno viewpoints, from where you can appreciate the city, the surrounding mountain ranges and spectacular natural panoramas, in addition these are ideal places for cycling, outdoor walks and hiking, among other activities.

Know the coffee farms in some, floriculture, the production of fruit trees, grains, and agro-ecotourism activities have been integrated, many of them members of EcoDipilto. To get to these farms you must previously coordinate your visit with the owners or those in charge of them.

You can visit the beautiful vacation rental houses such as La Koquimba, La Riviera, La Tierrita, and El Jardín, where they offer fully equipped accommodation and house services, they offer coffee tours and the iconic places of the municipality.

Venture out to discover the small floriculture greenhouses. You can tour the El Edén and Divino Niño nurseries, located in the Dipilto Viejo community.

Visit the farm La Guadalupana, located in the rural area of the municipality, where you will share the day to day with the inhabitants of the house and go hiking. In the farm the storm You will have a true community rural tourism experience and at the Las Promesas de San Blas farm you will be able to take tours of the place doing agricultural practices, cultural exchanges and picnic in the forest.

El Dipilto river it is an important water resource for the population and still preserves important natural features in its gallery forest, where visitors can take excursion walks. Among the representative fauna species of the municipality are foxes, rabbits, coatis, coyotes, tigrillos, pumas, deer, guatusas, raccoons, armadillos, parrots, chachalacas, mountain chickens, sparrowhawks, chichiltotes, woodpeckers, gardabarrancos, snakes zumbadoras, boa, rattlesnake, coral and tamagas.
