The municipality is located southwest of the department of León, its territory is divided into five main zones: the mountain range, the slopes of hills and volcanoes, the plain with a slightly sloping volcanic plain, the hills parallel to the sea and the Pacific coast.
As a conservation area, the municipality has the Juan Venado Island Nature Reserve. An island of Quaternary origin, formed by marine and continental deposits of sand and clay that occupy a barrier that extends from northwest to southeast, parallel to the Pacific coast. It is located between the Estero Las Penitas and the Estero de Salinas Grande.
Visiting the beaches of Juan Venado is an unforgettable experience, because between September and December many paslama turtles arrive to spawn, a surprising event of nature.
The estuary has multiple branches where you can navigate slowly and enjoy the mangrove landscape, observe marine and terrestrial species that seek habitat and food in this rich ecosystem; The nesting colonies of waterfowl is something spectacular. The beach ecosystem in the municipality is very significant, because despite receiving many tourists, they maintain ecologically important natural features.
There are rivers that preserve certain natural features, ideal for discovering the gallery forest, bird species and some small amphibian and reptile mammals.
El La Leona river It has an extension of almost six kilometers and preserves diverse vegetation and fauna on its margins; ideal for short walks, some offered by tour operators, to enjoy nature, either alone or in company.
Annual crops dominated by staple grains are corn, beans, and rice; Peanuts, sesame, sorghum, cassava, banana and sugar cane are also cultivated.
Among the flora species are chocoyito, eared guanacaste, melero, strawberry tree, macuelizo oak, palo de sal, sacuanjoche, quebracho, nancite, calf guácimo, cortez, tigüilote, güiligüiste, jiñocuabo, acetuno, neem, eucalyptus and los gray, salty and red mangroves, the latter is used for the elaboration of typical ranches at the local and national level.

Located 25 kilometers east of the city of León, entering through the community of Los Lechecuagos or the entrance of the Oscar Pérez Cassar Cast, you can visit the emblematic Cerro Negro volcano.
One of the youngest volcanoes on the continent, do extreme sports such as sand boarding, which consists of sliding down the volcano with specialized sports equipment, It will undoubtedly be a once in a lifetime experience. Ecological Farm San Carlos: located in the vicinity of Km 11 and ½ of the León – Managua highway. At the very entrance to Salinas Grandes.
The hacienda house is in good condition, its construction is made of wood and concrete, it has the basic services necessary to receive you and serve you as you deserve it. In the area of the farm you can take a tour of the river and its four dams, surrounded by nature, you can observe flora and fauna.
Zelaya Sector Farm: It is located about 23 kilometers on the way to the Cerro Negro volcano, it has horses for surrounding walks. It is a beautiful agricultural farm where they plant sesame, sorghum, yucca and lately grass, here you can learn about and practice the process of planting and harvesting these crops.
Located 10 kilometers north of the municipality of La Paz Centro, taking the entrance of León Viejo, is the San Luis de Asososca farm, in the community of La Sabaneta.
This farm has an area of 206 blocks, where you can take a tour to the viewpoint of the Laguna de Asososca about 300 meters from the house, the scenic view of the place is impressive. You can see the Cerro Las Pilas volcano, the Ajusco hill and on the horizon you can see the Momotombo and the Momotombito that settle in the Xolotlán lake.
In the Las Mercedes farm, located about 12 kilometers from the Cerro Negro volcano, you will learn about the planting of cassava and basic grains, while you walk and meet the families of the place.
Know the farm La Plancha, located about 13 kilometers from the city of León, on the road to the Chacraseca region. In the house you will find pool tables and wooded spaces to walk contemplating nature.

Located at km 90 and ½ León – Poneloya highway you will find the farm Los Alpes. This family farm has about 200 blocks, where you can go horseback riding, milk cows, observe wildlife, carry out cultural exchanges with neighboring communities, learn about raising cattle, visit the beach, among other activities.

La First of May Cooperative, located in the Lomas de Poneloya, from where El Tamarindo was, five blocks to the north, two to the east; It will allow you to have an experience full of nature and brotherhood with the population of that community, get to know the way of life of its people.
