Corinth Lighthouse.

The current port of Corinto was founded in 1858, replacing the port of La Posesión de El Realejo. The place was chosen for its extraordinary location. Corinth is actually an island separated from the mainland by the same estuary, but the construction of a bridge and a highway for heavy vehicles connected it to the mainland.

Corinto has great international relevance since the most important port in Nicaragua is located here. In addition, many of the agricultural products are imported and exported by Corinth.

Parallel to the port activity, Corinto also offers a beautiful beach accompanied by several restaurants lined up on the coast. This place - known as Costa Azul - offers a beautiful view of the bay and many other islands located in front of it.

Among these, the famous El Cardón Island, where the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío wrote “A Margarita Debayle”, during his visit to Nicaragua in 1907, one of his most famous poems. The islands are also known for their famous lighthouse and their stories.

The municipality is located 152 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with El Realejo, to the south with the Pacific Ocean, to the east with Chichigalpa and El Realejo, and to the west with the Pacific Ocean.

The main economic activity of the municipality is fishing, a job that is a source of work for many residents. As a secondary activity there is agriculture.
