El Sauce was originally a hamlet called Valle del Guayabal, it belonged to the town of Somotillo, Chinandega and was formed in 1723, around a small image of the Black Christ of Esquipulas known as the "Lord of the Miracles of Esquipulas de El Sauce" brought by devotees from Guatemala.
It is a beautiful and friendly town, with people who are proud to live in a privileged area between the volcanoes of the Pacific Ring of Fire and the greenery of nature, a place that mixes the modern with the traditional. The municipality of El Sauce is located 117 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with Achuapa and Estelí, to the south with Larreynaga, to the east with San Nicolás, Santa Rosa del Peñón and El Jicaral and to the west with the municipality of Villanueva.
The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is agriculture, the cultivation of basic grains, mainly rice and beans, highlights the cultivation of sesame, as well as livestock and beekeeping.

To get to El Sauce you can board an interlocal transport unit at the bus terminal located in front of the Casimiro Sotelo Montenegro National University, with the Managua-León route, then at the León bus terminal you take a microbus to El Sauce, you can also take a direct bus to El Sauce from Managua at the Israel Lewites Market.
If you travel by car, you must go along the Nueva a León highway, when you reach the Ciudad Universitaria, head towards Chinandega and when you pass through the municipality of Telica, you will find the Ansca junction where you must turn right, you will pass Larreynaga-Malpaisillo and when you reach the Dos Montes farm turn left, approximately 30 minutes later you will be in El Sauce.
