Masatepe, in the Nahuatl language means "Place where there are deer", mazatl which means "deer" and tepetl which translates as "hill or place", is the cradle of countless industrious craftsmen and magic hands, of great musicians and artists in general .

The municipality of Masatepe is located 53 kilometers from the city of Managua.

It limits to the north with the municipalities of La Concepción and Nindirí, to the south with El Rosario, to the east with the Laguna de Masaya, Niquinohomo and Nandasmo, to the west with La Concepción, San Marcos and Jinotepe.

The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is agriculture, mainly basic grains and coffee. Trade is of great importance in the local economy, especially the commercialization of wicker handicrafts, furniture and footwear.

Masatepe can be reached by buses that leave from Managua at the terminal of Mercado Roberto Huembes and Mercado Israel Lewites, or from Granada, Masaya and Jinotepe.

By private vehicle it is also easy to get on the highway to Masaya from Managua, passing through Masaya towards Las Flores and Catarina. At the Catarina roundabout turn right and after traveling eight kilometers you will find the entrance to the city of Masatepe.
