Palacagüina is a term in the Matagalpa language, derived from palca = hillside and guina = people, whose meaning is Place of the hillside people. 

Palacagüina is a municipality that awaits you with the best of its culture, with the hospitality of its people, and with unique natural landscapes.

The municipality of Palacagüina is located 193 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with Totogalpa, to the south with Condega and Pueblo Nuevo, to the east with Telpaneca and to the west with Yalagüina.

The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is agriculture, mainly the cultivation of basic grains.

How to reach?

To get there you must take a bus at the terminal of Mercado El Mayoreo in the direction of Ocotal or Somoto. These depart every 45 minutes and the trip takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. The bus leaves you at the entrance of Palacagüina, where you must take a taxi that takes 15 minutes to get to the city center.

You can also travel by private vehicle, heading along the North Pan-American Highway towards Ocotal and deviate at km. 193, at the entrance of the municipality. The road is signposted and in good condition, it is a paved road.
