The municipality of El Jicaral is located southeast of the department of León; Here two main areas are identified, the plains area to the south and the northern area dominated by broken reliefs, derived from the continued erosion on ancient volcanic materials.

El Jicaral is predominantly rural, a very quiet place where the population is dedicated mainly to agriculture and livestock. It has a tropical savanna climate, characterized by a marked dry season. This climate does not allow dense forests to develop, the environment being mostly plains dominated by herbs and shrubs.

One of the places where you can observe nature is the Sinecapa river and its surroundings, there you can do aquatic recreation in the La Vuelta pool, or take walks to observe birds, the remnants of the forest and some small reptiles and mammals. Further east of the municipality is El Río Viejo, where you can also carry out these activities. In the Fatima farm, located on the border with the municipality of San Francisco Libre, the company MANGO SA operates, where mango, guava and other fruit crops are grown. In this farm there are more than 40 thousand mango trees, it is a good place to learn about the maintenance of agroforestry systems and some associated fauna.

The livestock system is quite extensive in the municipality, it is made up of plains that are generally devoid of trees and are dedicated to cattle grazing. The plant species that dominate the landscape are herbs and shrubs that are adapted to dry periods, some are deciduous or thorny. The dry and gallery forest, in its preserved state, is very difficult to locate, they are generally small patches of sparse forest located in ravines, mountains and riverbanks.
