The municipality of Mulukukú was founded in 2005, it is a bridge between the North Caribbean zone and the Pacific of Nicaragua.

Among the attractions of the municipality is the hydrographic network where the Tuma, Kurinwas, Grande de Matagalpa, Iyas, Lisawé, Yaoska, Wilike, Kuikuinita and Umbla rivers stand out.

Tuma River: it is characteristic of the municipality because it crosses the entire city and divides it in two, in its waters it is possible to take a bath, go on boat rides, sport fishing, as well as meet and share with the inhabitants of the communities; located in the urban area.

The animals of the municipality are: howler monkey, white-faced monkey, spider monkey, guatusa, guardatinaja, Central American squirrel, white-tailed deer, sloth, common armed, Matagalpine squirrel, opossum, rabbit, pizote, guinea pig, culumuco, peacock bass and güis.
