The natural emblem of the municipality is the Coco river, which runs from west to northeast, constitutes the main hydrographic source of the municipality, this river functions as a boundary between the municipality of San Sebastián de Yalí and San Juan del Río Coco.

Other important bodies of water are the rivers that run through the municipality and give rise to the development of gallery forest and the survival of many species, including the Almorzadero river that rises on the El Bálsamo hill passing through the La Podrida hill and converges on the hill. Susukayan, and the San Juan River, which rises from Los Candelarios hill, crosses the town of San Juan del Río Coco from east to west and converges on El Chamastro hill.

Explore the El Majaste Nature Reserve, This site is of great importance because it is the main source of drinking water supply in the municipality. You can make tours of the trails, observe the flora and fauna of the site, enjoy the surrounding landscapes, observe the communities of La Dalia, El Majaste, La Flor and the coffee farms.

The reserve is located to the northwest of the municipality, the main access road is through the La Dalia community, located 3 kilometers east of the urban area. It can be reached by 4 × 4 vehicle, motorcycle or on foot. To visit it you must go to a local baqueano to guide you.

Cerro El Lechon, measures approximately 1700 m asl, here you will find abundant flora and fauna, this is characterized by the presence of monkeys and lions, in this site you can also visit the El Lechón Waterfall 4.3 meters. Tall; It is located in the community El Bálsamo centro, 25 kilometers from the urban area, the road is in optimal conditions throughout the year.

Hill the Balcony: It measures approximately 1700 meters above sea level, it is an ecological reserve, here we find species of birds, butterflies, monkeys, coyotes and deer, in addition to its majestic mountains, it is abundant in water, about 120 families live here who are in charge of take care and protect this reserve.

Visit El MiradorIn this natural site you can see the landscape of the El Majaste reserve, the urban area of ​​the municipality, communities such as Bálsamo and the hills that surround the municipality.

This viewpoint is located in Zone # 2 of the municipality. From the Maternal House 500 meters to the east, exit to Las Nubes and San José de Ojoche community. It can be reached from the urban area by vehicle, motorcycle, public transport or on foot.

Tourism rural

The family business that produces liquor and organic honey "Marcio Lanzas Rodríguez". You will meet Don Marcio, the only person who is dedicated to making liquor of various fruits in an artisanal way with hibiscus flower, orange and peach. Beekeeping production is with propolis and pollen organically. The company is small and markets its products in different parts of the municipality. It is located 5 kilometers from the urban area of ​​the municipality, in the San Lucas neighborhood, sector # 1. From the Salomón Ibarra Mayorga School one kilometer and a half to the west. It can be reached by private vehicle, motorcycle or on foot. Access is in optimal condition.

Dare to visit the El Balcón community, It is one of the highest points in the municipality, from here you can observe how the Coco River extends towards the plains of the Jinotega department, visit some natural viewpoints in the community located in the coffee farms such as that of Mr. Leonel de Jesús Lira Alfaro . From this farm you could see the Cerro Kilambé, the Canta Gallo Reserve and the municipality of Quilalí. You can also make a journey of approximately half an hour to the Coco River.

The community is located 18 kilometers from the urban area and can be reached by private vehicle, motorcycle or public transport to El Balcón hill, where the El Balcón community is located.

La Santa Luisa Estate, producer of different varieties of coffee, including caturra, catimor, bourbón, and yellow and red catuaí. In addition to a variety of citrus fruits such as orange and castile lemon. The owners are willing to teach you the production process from nurseries, planting, and threshing.

It is located from the Petronic gas station 2 kilometers west and 500 meters north on the Balsam Up community. You can arrive by private vehicle, motorcycle or on foot. The access roads are in good condition and it is advisable to go with someone who knows the site.

In the The Glory Estate coffee and citrus fruits are grown, it has a virgin wooded area that you can visit to explore and observe the flora and fauna of the site. Currently, tourist services are not offered but it has great potential to carry out activities such as learning about the coffee production process, and horseback riding, among other things.

This farm is located in the El Bálsamo Arriba community, from the Petronic gas station 3 kilometers to the east, and can be reached by vehicle or motorcycle, since there is no public transport to this area. The access roads are dirt roads in good condition, but if you want to go, you are advised to do so with a person who knows the site.
