The municipality of El Cuá is located in the eastern center of the department of Jinotega, in the area of influence of the Bosawás Biosphere Reserve, between the humid tropical forest that It is found in the middle altitudes of the mountains and hills, the trees are larger and it is found in many sectors, replaced by the cultivation of coffee; and the cloud forest that begins near 900 m asl where there is a lot of influence from clouds and mist.
The municipality boasts mountainous areas of abundant vegetation, varying heights that go from 350 m asl (River Cua), to heights greater than 1,745 m asl in the Peñas Blancas Massif and the Kilambé hill.
Among the natural attractions of the municipality are the Massif Peñas Blancas, which is shared between the municipalities of El Cua, Tuma-La Dalia and Rancho Grande. It is a tabular plateau crowned by several peaks, whose heights exceed 1,500 meters.
