The city of Niquinohomo is identified by its colonial-trend residential architecture with high-walled facades decorated in some cases with neoclassical elements.

Santa Ana Church

Saint Anne Church: A jewel of the predominant architecture during the Colony, founded in 1600, it rises high above the square, with its imposing Baroque façade, its three-window bell tower and curious hook-shaped finials. In its interior we can appreciate its three naves and a beautiful baroque altarpiece.

Due to its architectural and historical value, it was declared a National Historic Monument in 2002. It is one of the most important historical temples in Nicaragua, whose length is two feet longer than the Cathedral of León. The temple is located in the center of the city, in front of the Central Park. It measures 1,291.55 square meters, to the north with 74, to the south 74.37, to the east 17.89 and to the west 16.91 meters.

Hermitage El Calvario: Inside you can see the image of the Immaculate Conception of Mary and its imposing baroque canopy.

Old Railway Station: from the train station to the house of culture. The residents and especially the older people relive the Nicaraguan Pacific Railroad with longing and memories.

The times of the railroad service are evoked as moments of glory in the lives of the inhabitants due to the commercial activity and the bustle of the town. This building, known as La Estación, was restored and converted into a cultural center in 2015.

The old Niquinohomo station no longer houses railroad cars, but instead houses various musical instruments, dance and theater. This center, today a place of irradiation of culture, is the pride and cultural identity of the municipality.

General Sandino's family house, today it is a house museum. You will know part of the general's social life, and many stories about his childhood, considering that he grew up and lived from 11 to 17 years old.
In the house, historical articles, photographic paintings of the time, restored furniture, rooms and divisions of the property are exhibited that while you are getting to know they take you back in time.

The house of the Zambrana family, with more than two centuries of existence, the house of Juana Valerio, built more than 100 years ago, the house of Martín Sandino, built 180 years ago and the house of Gregorio Sandino are mentioned as old private buildings. , declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation in 1980, where the General Augusto C. Sandino museum is currently located. The house was owned by Don Gregorio Sandino, the general's father. The hours of operation are from Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon.

Niquinohomo has a series of buildings that are the historical-cultural heritage of the nation. They will undoubtedly be of great interest to visitors.
You can visit the Monument to General Augusto C. Sandino, National Hero and favorite son of Nicaragua. In its environment is the Paseo de Sandino, where the history of the National Hero is presented.

Another site of interest is the Old Railway Station, the memories of when they waited for the train in the small station are still preserved in the minds of the grandparents.

In the 80s the train stopped running and in the 90s the site became a police station. Today the old station has been restored and converted into the Cándido Pérez Marcia Community House Museum, in which archaeological pieces found in the municipality and information on the cultural manifestations of the town are exposed.

El Old Municipal Cemetery that houses the mortal remains of the family of General Sandino, as well as other characters that highlight the history of our Nicaragua.

El Moncada BridgeIt was built during the government of General José María Moncada and served as a means of communication between Masaya, Niquinohomo, Nandasmo and the White Villages.
