Cultural celebrations

The towns of Catarina and San Juan de Oriente depended on Niquinohomo, all called “namotiva” towns, which means “brothers”. It has been known as "Valley of the Warriors" and "Village of Victory" at different times in its history, although the inhabitants never stopped calling it Niquinohomo.

It is the cradle of the General of free men and women, Augusto C. Sandino, National Hero and symbol of the struggle for national sovereignty.

In 2002, on the occasion of commemorating the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Niquinohomo as a city, a special session of the National Assembly was held in the Santa Ana Church to declare this municipality as a Historical Heritage of the Nation.

Crafts

From the laborious hands of the artisans, you will appreciate the beautifully carved woodwork, embossed in aluminum and paint, as well as the elaboration of furniture of high quality and traditional value.

In the workshops you will learn about the processes of making handicrafts and the raw materials used to make baskets, hammocks, braided furniture, and leather and ceramic items. In each workshop there is a symbol product that identifies the artisan or workshop, pride of their identity.
