The municipality of Paiwas is 227 km away. from Managua, capital of Nicaragua.
It limits to the north with Mulukukú and Prinzapolka, to the south with El Ayote, to the east with La Cruz del Río Grande and El Tortuguero and to the west with Matiguás and Río Blanco.
The economic activity is based on agricultural and livestock production. Agriculture is small-scale and mainly for self-consumption, with the cultivation of basic grains.
