The municipality of Palacagüina is located in the center of the department of Madriz and has an average height of 560 m asl Among the mountains and heights that stand out: Loma La Peña (854 m asl), Cerro El Potrero (801 m asl), Loma La Cruz (821 m asl) and Cerro Chiquito (751 m asl). 18% of the municipality's territory presents a slight to moderately undulating relief with slopes of 2 - 8%.
Among the natural attractions of the municipality is the Toad Stone, It is a rock and cliff located two kilometers from the urban area. It is of considerable height from where you can appreciate an impressive panoramic view of the town of Palacagüina and the mountains of the departments of Estelí, Nueva Segovia and the rest of Madriz.

The fauna species are few due to the reduction of the forest mass, among the species that are still registered are the white-tailed deer, rabbit, cusuco, iguana, guardatinaja, garrobo, fox, chocoyo, buzzard, pigeons, guardabarranco, magpie , hawk, carrot, chirica, saltapiñuela, charralero, guises, zenzontle, roadrunners, and squirrels.
