Visitors can use the driver's license from their country of origin for 30 days after entering Nicaragua.
To enter the country you must:
- Enter through an authorized border control post.
- Present a passport valid for more than 6 months or a migratory document recognized by Nicaragua.
- Carry entry visa if required or residence card.
- Comply with the procedures and tariffs established for immigration clearance.

Category A: visa-exempt.
Category B: consular visa, without consultation or border visa. Cost of USD$ 50.00.
Category C: consulted visa, the requirements for the granting of the visa, must be presented by the foreign citizen before the diplomatic and/or consular representation of Nicaragua abroad.
It is recommended to fill out the online form, for an agile and secure entry, seven days before entering the country.
Vaccines
The General Health Law and its reforms, for the control and prevention of diseases, establishes for entering the country in relation to the International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever, that all travelers from a country with risk of transmission of the disease, According to the list of the World Health Organization, WHO, it is required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate or card.
They will not present an international yellow fever vaccination certificate:
- Travelers transiting through a country at risk of transmission
- People from countries without risk of transmission, who stay in Panama for no less than 24 hours
- Under 1 year old or over 60 years old
- Supported by medical evidence pregnant women, lactating women, people with allergies to eggs and with impaired immunity
Tourist fee:
Every foreigner upon entering the country must pay an amount of $10.00 dollars or its equivalent in national currency in tourist card concept. Citizens of the CA-4 Agreement countries (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua) are exempt from this fee.
When entering the country through the land border posts, they must pay:
- $5.00 dollars or its equivalent in national currency in concept of entry of a vehicle.
- $10.00 dollars or its equivalent in national currency in concept of entry of a microbus.
- $15.00 dollars or its equivalent in national currency in bus entry concept.
Covid-19
No, as of June 16, 2022, Nicaragua eliminated the negative PCR test requirement to enter the country, being replaced by a complete vaccination schedule against covid-19, which must be presented by travellers, passengers and crew at any of the border posts (air, land or sea).
The year of application of vaccines will not be an impediment and the complete schedule corresponds to two doses that can be of the same vaccine or combined, and in the case of Sputnik Light and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson, one dose. The vaccination card or certificate may be presented physically or digitally, says the Ministry of Health.
The country accepts all vaccines approved by the World Health Organization, WHO, or registered in Nicaragua: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Soberana 02, Abdala, Janssen, Sinopharm and Coviran.
Those people who do not comply with the complete vaccination schedule must present a negative result of RT-PCR for covid-19 (nasopharyngeal swab), with 72 hours from the sampling to the entry of the country.
