The patron saint festivities are dedicated to the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception of Mary; which are celebrated from December 8 to 15; performing religious events, masses, and the procession of the image of the patron saint through the main streets of the city, accompanied by two philharmonic bands, one from Jalapa and the other from Somoto.

It is also celebrated with fireworks and cultural and recreational activities, with artistic presentations. The local equestrian takes place with invited equestrians from all over the country.
They also celebrate the feast of Divine Providence, on June 1; the Divine Child, on July 20; the Virgin of Guadalupe, on December 12, and the traditional shouting on December 7, as well as joyful popular festivities in the town square.
The National Corn Fair. It is the most important cultural expression of the municipality, it takes place every year. There are three days of celebrations; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the third weekend of September.
Saturday takes place the Diana, then he float parade in carts and horse-drawn carriages, decorated with products derived from corn, and with the candidates for queen of each community. The parade begins at the entrance of the city and is concentrated in the Central Plaza, where the best float, the best dress made with corn products and the best princess are awarded.
In the Central Plaza, the Gastronomic Fair of Corn Products is also held, and the best food dish, the best drink, and the best sweets and corn breads are awarded. The first three places in each category, selected by a jury, are awarded. More than 50 exponents participate.
At night there is a coronation party for the queen of the fair and on Sunday there is a car competition, Ben-Hur style, decorated with corn products. Prizes are awarded to the first three places.
Municipal foundation anniversary party. April 3 is the anniversary of the municipality. An artistic festival of music, dance, poetry and theater, car parades, an exhibition of photographs of the city and the most important events that have taken place during the last year are held. There is also a poetry recital, exhibitions of crafts from the municipality, concluding with a joyous popular festival.
Romantic and unpublished music festival. Held in the months of May, June and December and organized by the House of Culture Gloria Gaona Cruz, founded in 1985. The house of culture has a promotion and training program with painting and drawing workshops, where children, youth and adults participate. Every year they hold an exhibition of their work. It also has a permanent exhibition by the Arte sobre Raíces Group.
