Autonomous Week: commemoration of the enactment of the autonomy processes of the Autonomous Region of the Caribbean Coast, obtained in 1987.
This is a massive event that is celebrated with cultural activities, gastronomic fairs and other important events related to this anniversary.
Celebration of traditions: it is customary with dance parties and religious acts in which the guitar and the accordion stand out. Games such as king pulanka, kitty ally, maskaret mairen and waitna danska are played in the communities.
Kin Danska Pulanka: At the moment it is carried out, only, in the communities of Alamikangban and Limbayka, in this festival a king and a queen are chosen, both are dressed and crowned, which will represent the community for a year; It is a festival where local cuisine is tasted, danced and large quantities of chicha or saman laya are consumed, a drink made from rice. This festival is in honor of the old monarchy and coronation of the Miskitu king.
It is the most popular and traditional festival in the municipality. It was held in January and part of February as a reminiscence of the sacred tree called ´Suha´ and promises are made and announced good harvests, lots of food and everything that people want to get.
The tradition consists in the concentration of all the community members, around the festivities, where children's games are developed, games of masked people, they prepare and drink misla, accompanied by lukluk, typical food, prepared based on beef with yucca.
Kitty Ally: It consists of a ball game that takes place during January, where only the elderly participate, both men and women.
Maskaret Mairen and Waitna Danska: costume ball taking place in almost all Miskito communities. On November 11, all the communities celebrate Misurasata day as a way to demonstrate their cultural identity, the communities meet in Alamikangban, in this festival the usus mairin (buzzard woman) is danced, a very popular dance in the Miskito communities.
They also celebrate Christmas, New Year and National Holidays, where the entire community participates by organizing traditional meals and religious festivities.
