Santiago Apóstol Parish Church:

Somoto, like other municipalities in the Segovias region, stands out for its vernacular and modern buildings, which constitute part of the architectural heritage of vital importance and local identity.

Santiago Apóstol Parish ChurchWell of high patrimonial value, its main façade is in the Baroque style.

It was built in 1661, restored in 1875, the date the tower was erected. In 1961 it was restored again. This church is one of the architectural jewels of Somoto and is the quintessential meeting place for the city's parishioners. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Old Public Clock

Old Public Clock: It is an imposing tower, located on the right side of the atrium of the Church of Somoto; it is more than nine meters high; the tower was built in 1966 and the clock was brought from Germany, at the initiative of the Rotary Club of Somoto. Only three cities in Nicaragua have public clocks in their own towers, independent of temples: Somoto, Diriamba and Ciudad Darío.

Building of the old command: more than a century old, its three towers stand out, one of them had a lighthouse that served as a guide for the landing of airplanes. It is currently the University Campus, an important historical landmark in the city.

It is located in front of the west side of Central Park.

Trinidad Alfaro House: More than 100 years old, a building with high heritage value and for housing use, it was chosen the oldest in the city by the municipal Mayor's Office, it retains its originality; it is representative of vernacular architecture; historical landmark and symbol of local architectural identity. It is located in the Pedro Joaquín Chamorro neighborhood.

José Santos Zelaya Park

House of the Díaz González: selected by the municipality as the second oldest house in the city with more than 100 years old, it retains its originality; it is representative of vernacular architecture. It is located in the Pedro Joaquín Chamorro neighborhood.

Mejía Godoy Family House: residential building, with heritage value, more than a century old. Place where brothers Carlos and Luis Enrique were born and lived their first years of life. It is an important historical cultural landmark of the city. Preserves real estate of the time. It is located in the central street of Somoto.

House of Maria Teresa Armijo Almendarez: of vernacular construction; where Carlos Mejía Godoy was inspired, who composed the popular song “El almendro de onde la Tere”. It is a cultural historical site of local reference. It is located in the southeast corner of Parque Central, half a block south.

Historical Mural: Monumental art, a work of high heritage value, painted in 1982 by Javier Tercero, originally from Managua. It is 12 meters long by 5 meters high, covering an entire wall of the Health Center. The theme of the mural represents the history of Nicaragua, from pre-Hispanic times to the triumph of the Sandinista Popular Revolution.

Cesar Augusto Mendoza Arauz football stadium

José Santos Zelaya Municipal Park: It has equipment for a recreation area, modern and colorful children's games, benches to rest, platforms, gardening, a recently remodeled covered court; kiosks and internet via WiFi.

Lucila playground: here you will find modern children's games, comfortable benches where you can relax in a safe environment. It is located in front of the Municipal Market 19 de Julio.

Canchas deportivas and Sports Center, places where the young women of the municipality meet every afternoon to practice the most popular sports such as soccer and basketball.

Stadium municipal baseball and Cesar Augusto Mendoza Arauz football stadium, where the local baseball leagues and soccer championships are held respectively, mainly on weekends.

Environmental Interpretation Center: a place where you will learn about the conservation and care of the environment, you can visit a small zoo located inside the center. It is located behind the Cesar Augusto Mendoza Arauz football stadium.
