The Department of Boaco is made up of the municipalities of Boaco, Camoapa, San Lorenzo, Teustepe, San José de los Remates and Santa Lucía. Its departmental capital is the city of Boaco, popularly known as the "City of Two Floors". The department of Boaco is located 90 km from the capital.

The name of BOACO, comes from the juice and the Aztec. It is made up of two words or roots. "Boa or Boaj", which means "enchanting", and the ending "O", which means "place or town", deducing that the name of BOACO means: "Town or Place of Charming".

The climate in the region is varied, it is crossed by rivers, streams, waterfalls and surrounded by hills that in the distance can be seen as giant stone masses: Cerro Alegre, Santa Lucia, Mombachito, Peña Labrada, El Monolito, among others.

It is a temple built over 26 years [1789-1815] and preserves the colonial architecture.
The Church has been completely renovated, but retains the popular Baroque structure on its façade, with a belfry with two holes.
At the top of the Parish, the Cross of Forgiveness was appreciated, located in the atrium, it was extracted in one piece from the Finca Quinta Olga, today San Antonio, said Cross disappeared and nobody knows its whereabouts. The old gold-plated bells also disappeared, as well as the old three-piece clock, the current clock is electronic.
