Community of Tuapí, spas and celebration of King Pulanka

Starting the new year (January 01) we invite you to visit the community of Tuapí located 13 km from Bilwi, to celebrate the oldest ancestral festival of the Miskitu people, the traditional King Pulanka (game of kings), where the community accompany two young people who represent the king of La Mosquitia and his wife, while they dance around him, recalling the time when the Kingdom of La Mosquitia existed, imposed by the British crown in the XNUMXth century; brings together people of all ages, who dance to the traditional music of the Miskitu indigenous people, such as Usus Mairin, Sirpiki Mairin and Liwa Mairin, enlivened by community musicians with typical instruments: home-made and acoustic guitars, horse jaws, coconut grater, carapace turtle and deer skin drum (kumbi), enjoying luk luk, takru, auhbi piakan, inska ankan yauhra ankan wal, guabul, tualbi and bunia, typical dishes and drinks. This festival is celebrated every weekend in January and February in a different community (Maniwatla, Lapan, Betania, Kamla, Sangnilaya, Kuakuil, Lamlaya, Wawa Bar, Auhya Pihni, El Cocal, to name a few).

Karata Community

You can visit the community of Karatá, traveling from Bilwi, Puerto Cabezas by waterway (river and lagoon), round trip the same day (08:00 am-05:00 pm). In the community of Karatá, in addition to Miskitus, you can see people with black physiognomy, many descendants of Jamaicans. Young people speak Spanish and many elderly speak English-Creole. In this site, nature offers you through the Wawa River the contemplation of lizards, birds, monkeys and its small lagoons with migratory birds, where it is also possible to observe some species of fauna from a boat or small boats. They are suitable places to camp or bathe with family or friends. Karatá has a lagoon that offers the possibility of practicing water sports and living the experience of fishing. Species such as sea bass, tarpon and shrimp are common and are present in community cuisine.
