Waspam is a municipality characterized by its indigenous culture and traditions that have prevailed over the years, surrounded by an extraordinary nature. Waspam awaits you to share unique experiences with its inhabitants.

Located north of the Autonomous Region of the Northern Caribbean Coast, it is a wide strip that borders the Coco River and limits to the north with Honduras, to the south with the municipalities of Puerto Cabezas, Rosita and Bonanza, to the east with Puerto Cabezas and the Caribbean Sea, to the west with El Cúa and San José de Bocay. Waspam is located 632 kilometers from the city of Managua, capital of Nicaragua.

The fundamental economic activities of the municipality are livestock, agriculture, fishing and mining.

The municipality crosses two important formations: the humid tropical forest, which is established on formations, generally of volcanic origin; and that of the plains, where the pine vegetation cover is found, whose lands have developed on thick clayey deposits, or on unconsolidated sedimentary strata of rounded quartz gravel.

The largest population of this municipality is the Miskitu indigenous people, who still preserve their own language, culture and traditions. The main means of communication and transportation for the population is the Wangki or Coco River.
