The municipality presents an undulating topography, the highest point of the territory is the Musún hill with 1,438 m asl. Among the main hills, the Punta hill and the Cuero Rollo hill stand out.
The most important natural attraction of Río Blanco is the Musún hill, a topographic elevation located in the central area of the country, which makes it the first isolated elevation that has contact with the Caribbean plain and which becomes an important center of hydrographic contribution to the rainforest ecosystems.
It is a spectacular site due to its unique beauty since it has elements such as waterfalls in the community of Bilampí and the viewpoints on Cerro Punta and La Peña, El Alero cave in Bilampí and La Golondrina waterfall and Los Encuentros, a set of massifs that make up the hill.
La Cerro Musún Nature Reserve It is known as the Mountain of the Mayagnas, considered a sacred and venerated place by the native peoples, hence the many legends that are told in relation to the hill.
The reserve has a park ranger station that functions as an information center, where you can learn more through maps and information panels.

The hill originates several waterfalls for what many people have called the hill of water. Among these jumps we will find the Bilampí jump and the Caño Negro jump.
Another leap of great importance is the La Golondrina waterfall, a majestic waterfall that rises from the depths of the hill, here hundreds of swallows are observed, hence its name. The waterfall forms others that cross the city of Río Blanco, thus giving rise to the name of this beautiful municipality.

The main basins with influence in the municipality are those of the Paiwas, Blanco, El Martillo, Tuma, Wanawana, El Aparejo, Bilampí, Wanawás, Palan, Manceras, Walanita and Cuatro Esquinas rivers, and others with a smaller flow but than in winter increase considerably.

The hydrography of the Musún hill is made up of 8 main micro-basins that drain the same number of main rivers, which are arranged radially on the ground. The micro-basin with the highest capacity for evacuating water is that of Río Blanco with 43.3k² and which supplies drinking water to the town of Río Blanco. The smallest is that of Río Palán with 10.8k². This water eventually converges into the Tuma, Wilike Grande, and Matagalpa rivers; important water courses that flow into the Atlantic or Caribbean coast of the country.
