The municipality of San Rafael del Norte is located 185 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with the municipality of San Sebastián de Yalí and Santa María de Pantasma, to the south with La Trinidad and La Concordia, to the east Jinotega, and to the west with La Concordia.

To get to San Rafael del Norte from Managua, you must board a transport unit at the Mercado El Mayoreo bus terminal heading to Jinotega and then take another bus at the Rigoberto López Pérez market terminal bound for this municipality. From Jinotega, a trip of only 24 kilometers awaits you, which you will travel in 30 minutes if you take a "quick" and in an hour if you take a "routed".
You also have the option from El Mayoreo to wait for the only bus with direct destination Managua-San Rafael del Norte, which leaves every day at 03:00 in the afternoon.
From the city of Estelí you can also get to San Rafael del Norte by taking a direct bus on the North COTRAN of that city.
If you decide to travel by private vehicle from Managua, you must first take the Pan-American Highway until you reach Jinotega and then head towards the municipality.
If you travel through Estelí, you go to the Monument of El Centenario and there you turn right, then continue on the road towards La Concordia, passing this municipality you will arrive at the detour where the statue of Padre Odorico D'Andrea is where you must turn left and you will arrive at San Rafael del Norte. The road is in excellent condition and the trip will take about an hour.
