Villanueva is located 182 kilometers from Managua. It limits to the north with Somotillo and San Francisco del Norte, to the south with Chinandega and the municipalities of La Larreynaga and Telica, to the east with San Juan de Limay, El Sauce and Achuapa; to the west with Somotillo.
The fundamental economic activity is agriculture and livestock, most of the population is dedicated to the cultivation of basic grains such as: rice, corn, sesame and sorghum, they are also dedicated to gold mining.

To get to Villanueva you must board a transport unit in the Israel Lewites Market, in Managua, heading to the municipality of Chinandega, then in this terminal take one that goes to Villanueva.
If you travel by private vehicle, take the road to the department of León, following the route to Chinandega and the El Guasaule border post.
