The patronal feast of Tisma is in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption. It is celebrated on August 14, the day of the candle of the image, and on the 15th the most important day with a solemn mass and a procession with live angels.

The Feast of the Cross, which begins at the end of April with the traditional tope de toros, its main day is May 3.

A deep-rooted tradition in the social life of the Tismeños are cockfights, bullfighting and horse racing.

Its main traditional dances represented during its festivities: dance of reverence to the Cross and Nacatamales de a peso.

The Devil and the Wandering Jew

The cultural-religious expression, which stands out during Holy Week, in the municipality of Tisma, is a street theater performance, known as The Devil and The Wandering Jew (whose plot is the temptation of Judas—by the devil—); is performed on Good Friday, the companions of these characters parade covered in black oil or grease and dirty those they find careless, during their journey through the main streets of Tisma.
