Indio Maiz Biosphere Reserve

San Juan de Nicaragua is a small town privileged to be part of the exuberant Indio-Maíz Biosphere Reserve, where the rivers give way to its jungle and different lagoons that surround it, in addition to its natural wealth, it is recognized for its historical sites and its ethnic communities. Known as Greytown, later as San Juan del Norte.

The municipality of San Juan de Nicaragua is located 485 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with Bluefields, to the south with the international border Nicaragua-Costa Rica, to the east with the Caribbean Sea and to the west with El Castillo.

The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is artisanal fishing, agriculture and, to a lesser extent, livestock.

Address

To get to this small municipality from the capital, you must board a bus at the terminal of Mercado El Mayoreo bound for San Carlos, upon arrival take a panga from the pier to San Juan del Norte.

If you travel by private vehicle you must take the road to San Carlos, passing through San Benito, Juigalpa, Acoyapa until you reach San Carlos, where you will take the panga that leaves for San Juan del Norte.
